Chinese Telecom Manufacturer Ships Open Source Phones To Europe

Chinese telecom device maker ZTE has launched its first Firefox OS smartphone named Open in Europe with the price of EUR69, which is about CNY552.

ZTE's Open adopts a 3.5-inch display with the resolution of 480×320. It has a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7225A processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, a 3.2 million pixel rear camera, and the GPS function. It is an entry-level smartphone and has a comparatively low price.

Mozilla, the developer of Firefox OS, created the open source mobile operating system based on a Linux core. It uses open web technology and has been developed with HTML5.

Taking the Gecko browser engine as its core, Firefox OS applications are Internet-based. However, it can realize offline use via the HTML5 cache Manifest or other related APIs.
