Siemens China Acquires Component Maker APT

The Automation and Drives Group of Siemens China has extended its portfolio by acquiring low-voltage control component manufacturer Shanghai APT.

After integration into Siemens A&D, APT — which is located in Taizhou, Zhejiang — will focus on manufacturing push button and pilot devices as well as other key low-voltage products such as stack lights, cam switches, limit switches, and current transformers. Some of these series will serve as a platform for developing and manufacturing a comprehensive set of low-voltage offerings in the long-term.

Klaus Schmid, senior vice-president of Siemens China and senior vice-president of A&D China, stated that China's market for electrical low voltage products for construction and industrial applications is estimated at around CNY40 billion, with an annual growth of 10%.

After integration, Siemens will retain APT's existing sales force, service and distribution network across China and Siemens will continue to sell the company's products under the current brand of APT. As the company expands its business, a dual-brand strategy of both Siemens and APT will be adopted.

The merger of APT with A&D will also strengthen the presence of Siemens in Zhejiang Province, where Siemens has an operating company; Siemens High Voltage Circuit Breakers, Hangzhou; and four offices — in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, and Jinhua.
