Praxair (China) Investment Co., Ltd. has signed a gases supply contract with Guangzhou Longxue Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., an affiliate of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
Praxair China also supplies gases to CSSC's Changxing Island Shipbuilding Base in Shanghai.
Since the 1990s, Praxair China has been supplying high quality liquid oxygen to local shipyards, replacing small air separation units that consume more energy and large volumes of packaged gas. The new supply system also improves the reliability of supply as well as providing significant costs and energy savings.
Praxair China has also been developing new gas applications for the shipyards as well as providing improvements in welding and cutting technologies to combat various technical problems encountered by the shipyards.
David Chow, president of Praxair China stated that the GLS contract provides Praxair China with another opportunity to support the energy saving and improved environmental performance of the shipbuilding industry in China.
Praxair has also been working with other customers in China's shipbuilding industry including Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., CSSC Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and COSCO-Shipyards etc.
