Jiannanchun Group Lost Up To CNY1 Billion In Earthquake

The Mianzhu City factory of Jiannanchun Group, a key alcohol manufacturer in China, has been shut down because of the earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province.

By May 16, 2008, the group had made a loss of CNY800 million to CNY1 billion and this is still increasing.

Jiannanchun Group suffered a great deal of damage in the earthquake. More than 90% of its factories experienced varying degrees of damage. The No.2 packaging workshop completely collapsed and the wine cellars were also destroyed. About 40% of the wine was lost in the earthquake.

However, no worker of the group was found dead or injured in the earthquake. According to the group's security department, some workshops usually start working at 15:00, so the earthquake did not affect these workers. In addition, the group transferred its workers from the production workshops to a safe place immediately after the earthquake.

After the earthquake, Jiannanchun Group and its hospital workers actively supported the earthquake relief efforts. It provided free medical assistance to its workers and the neighboring people and offered drinking water to earthquake victims.

Qiao Tianming, president of Jiannanchun Group, said that resuming production is also a top priority for the group and the wine-making workshops are expected to resume production within a month.
