Chicony Electronics, the world's leading keyboard and digital webcam supplier, has signed an agreement with the municipal government of Chongqing to set up a manufacturing base for laptop-related products in the city's Shuangfu New Town.
With an investment of CNY2.7 billion, the new plant in Chongqing is expected to become the largest manufacturing base for laptop-related products in Asia, said Zhou Chao, deputy director of the management committee of Shuangfu New Town. At the same time, Chicony's new plant will provide support to other computer companies that already have projects in Chongqing, including Foxconn, Inventec, and Quanta.
The new plant will cover an area of 800 mu and it focuses on the manufacturing of mouse, keyboard, and webcam products. Zhou revealed that Chicony plans to first enter the standard factory buildings offered by Shuangfu New Town around this Spring Festival and its own manufacturing base will start construction at the same time.
As a leading laptop-related products maker in the world, Chicony Electronics achieved operating revenue of CNY60.5 billion in 2010 and it now has about 17,000 employees.
