Aiming to fill a niche in the live music scene, 7-piece New Zealand band Solidaz may have hit on something just right. This seasoned touring group, having honed their skills over the past decade in 5-star hotels, have recently teamed up with Pavillion (opposite Gongti West Gate), offering a crowd-pleasing mix of pop, rock, and R&B classics, with a few Chinese songs thrown in too.
Though the Solidaz crew is new to Beijing, it turns out they are some of the best hosts in town, enjoying beers before and between sets with new friends at the bar and obliging with every song request they know. The 6 guy, 1 (Canadian) girl lineup takes turns at lead and backing vocals creating an energy-packed, party-style experience that Pavillion's long-time regulars are falling for, while at the same time, winning over a range of younger expats and locals alike. An added bonus is spicy Indonesian D.J. Nyna spinning thumping tracks between and after band sets.
