Chinese Software Industry Maintained Stable Growth During Q1 2010

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has stated on its website that during the first quarter of 2010, China's software industry maintained stable development, with significant increase of revenue from the service sector.

In the first three months of 2010, China's software industry achieved revenue of CNY257.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25.7% and the growth rate was 1.8 percentage points higher than the same period in 2009.

For details, revenue contributed by the information technology value-added services was CNY24.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 47.2%; revenue from software products was CNY92.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 23.9%; revenue from system integration and supporting services was CNY54.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.7%; revenue from information technology consulting and management services was CNY23.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25.9%; revenue from embedded system software was CNY46.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 22.1%; and revenue from design and development was CNY16.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 37%.

By region, the eastern areas of China realized software revenue of CNY226.2 billion, accounting for 87.9% of the total revenue. Compared with the same period of previous year, the revenue increased by 26% and the growth rate was 2.1 percentage points higher. Revenue from the western areas increased by 28.6% year-on-year to CNY20.9 billion and the growth rate was 0.5 percentage point higher than that in 2009; and revenue from the central areas increased by 14% year-on-year CNY10.2 billion and the growth rate was four percentage points lower.

China's exports of software reached USD4.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 21.7% and the growth rate was 26.6 percentage points lower than the same period in 2009. Of the total, exports from software outsourcing services were USD510 million, a year-on-year increase of 26% and the growth rate was 4.2 percentage points lower.

In addition, 15 sub-provincial cities in China completed software revenue of CNY127.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 31%. Software revenue in cities like Dalian, Nanjing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Ningbo all grew by over 30%.
