Telecom Associations In Mainland, Taiwan Sign Five MOUs

The Association of Communications Across the Taiwan Straits and Taiwan Telecommunication Industry Development Association have signed five memorandums of understanding, marking the formal beginning of the cooperation of cross-strait telecom associations.

According to the five MOUs, the two parties will build a cooperation and exchange platform for telecom industries in Taiwan and mainland China; promote communications and exchanges of cross-strait telecom industries; promote the joint construction of submarine cables between the two regions; and promote the joint market expansion and investment cooperation of cross-strait telecom industries.

In addition, the two parties will promote the development of cross-strait telecom technologies and services, support the implementation of 3G roaming services, jointly promote cooperation of telecom industry chain across the Taiwan Straits, jointly explore the global market, and form a close cooperation partnership.

Since its founding in April 2004, Taiwan Telecommunication Industry Development Association has become a industry cooperation platform jointly managed and supported by telecom operators in Taiwan. It is committed to promoting the development of the industry and improving the cross-strait communications of the telecom industry.

Founded in August 2009, the Association of Communications Across the Taiwan Straits aims to promote the development, communication, and exchange of telecom services in Taiwan and mainland China. Its members include China Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Academy of Telecommunication.
