Quality Problems For International Brands In China

Shenzhen Municipal Department of Industry and Commerce has released the result of their tests of imported clothes during the third and fourth quarters of this year showing that 18 out of 30 batches of the imported clothes checked were substandard.

Reports say that these batches included several well-known international brands such a Ports, Armani, and Fendi. However, the sellers of these luxury brands seem to be surprised or even shocked when hearing about problems with their products. Emporio Armani's Shenzhen dealers said they would immediately remove from display clothes that SMDIC list as having substandard pH values and rectify items that are substandard.

Two batches of Fendi products were found to be substandard. Fendi said that they've not received a notice about their problem from SMDIC.

Consumers are surprised that well known international brands which have a reputation for quality should have problems. However some loyal consumers say they will continue to support their favorite brands despite these problems.

SMDIC says that it will deal with each case depending on the particular problem. For those with an incorrect logo, they will urge the businesses to make corrections as soon as possible; and for those that contain excessive formaldehyde, have higher pH values or uneven colors, they will ask the dealers to stop selling them, rectify the problem and notify the consumers. In addition, they will carry out further investigations on clothes sold in the city.
