The European Union has passed a new dictate on toy safety which reportedly has listed Chinese toy makers as the main target of supervision as the "Made in China" toys have taken up the majority of Europe's toy market.

News from Jiangsu Provincial Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine is that Jiangsu has suspended the operations of 85 toy manufacturers since the province initiated a special campaign last year.

Following recalls and concerns over toy safety in China, Wal-Mart has begun sharing its new Toy Safety Net standards with all toy suppliers to ensure requirements and guidelines for material content in toy products, and testing, will impact all new toys and toy re-orders.

Sourcing company B2X Corporation announced a new service that removes key concerns preventing small-to-midsized toy retailers from sourcing products directly from Chinese manufacturers.

Pu Changcheng, the vice-director of AQSIQ, hs announced that during the recent special examination of product quality and food safety, AQSIQ examined and registered all toy manufactures and thoroughly investigated the 3,000 companies which manufacture or supply export toys from China. More than 600 companies' export licenses were canceled as a result of this inspection.

Li Qingxiang, deputy director of Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, said that the Chinese government had taken many measures since the second half of last year to ensure the safety of exported toy products.

Zhejiang Bureau of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has signed a quality control and operation pledge letter with toy exporters across the province.
