Taiwan-headquartered fabless semiconductor company MediaTek Inc. and the U.S. wireless communication technology developer Qualcomm have signed a patent cross-licensing agreement.

According to information from the Open Handset Alliance, China's telecommunications manufacturer Huawei and 13 other companies, including Vodafone, Toshiba and Sony Ericsson, have jointed the alliance to lend support to the Android open source platform-based Google phone.

China TechFaith has signed an agreement with QuickTel to develop and manufacture low-cost mobile handsets in Egypt.
