UPS Gets Approval To Enter Olympic Village

UPS has received approval to be in the Olympic Village to offer express services to athletes and media customers during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In July the company will open four express stores — in the Athletes' Village and in the Media Village.

A representative from UPS says that it will set up four express stores in the Athletes' Village, the Media Village, the main press center and the international broadcasting center one month before the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. By that time, athletes and media customers will be able to receive international express mail in these stores.

To ensure the mail safety during the 2008 Olympic Games, the State Post Bureau released a notice in March 2008. According to the notice, during the 29th Olympic Games, China Courier Service Corporation is approved to manage EMS services and UPS is approved to manage entry-exit goods express services and post commissioned businesses. Other postal enterprises should not receive or send mail goods from or to places such as offices and stadiums that are related to the Olympic Games.
