The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine of China says the Beijing Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine Department has hunted down and seized rice illegally imported from the United States.

According to relevant Chinese rules, American rice has not been approved to be exported to China, but BQSIQD received a report that some supermarkets in the city were selling American rice. In coordination with concerned departments, BQSIQD seized a batch of Mahatma Extra Long Grain Enriched Rice from a store named Jenny Lou's, which caters to expatriates in the capital city. The manufacturer of the rice is Riviana Foods.

BQSIQD has sealed up the boxes of rice and destroyed them.
